What is Multimedia?
The simultaneous use of two more different forms of media, e.g. tape or slides. Derived from open and distance
learning institutions, it was originally used to describe course delivery in terms of text, television, radio, etc.
Nowadays, multimedia can be interpreted as a result after combining several things like graphics, sounds,
animations, and etc.
How to develop media software:
There are 8 phases of developing multimedia software:
- Analysis and project planning: including needs analysis, objectives and specifications for
Design and authoring: developing overall design, lessons, production sheets and creating
Pre-production: developing specifications for all material.
Production: Phase during which all material is produced.
Post-production: Includes editing and special effects.
Mastering the final program on CD-ROM or another platform.
Integration and testing: debugging the system, testing the system to ensure it functions
Distribution of material to learners with supporting material.
How to evaluate multimedia software:
Multimedia software can be assessed by 4 factors:
Learning design: content and learning driven rather than media driven.
Purchasing versatility: ability to adapt material to in-house requirements.
Platform versatility: multimedia product compatible with a variety of systems and platforms.
- User-friendliness and attractiveness: adequate instructions and movement around the material.
